Use public Topaz source under Apache-2.0 and official executables under the terms supplied with their components. You can use Topaz for personal, educational and commercial work.
Choose the component terms
| Component | Terms |
|---|---|
| Authorized public Topaz compiler, standard library, tools, specification, conformance inputs and examples | Apache-2.0 |
| Official executables from 5.21.0 | Separate executable terms with Apache and third-party component rights retained |
| npm installer wrapper | Apache-2.0; its downloaded executable has separate component terms |
| Your programs and data | You retain your rights; generated output carries its output grant and runtime notices |
| Previously published Apache material, including 5.20.4 | Existing Apache-2.0 grants remain effective |
The executable grant permits downloading, installing, running and copying on any number of computers, including commercial services and automated builds. You may redistribute unmodified executables with their terms and required notices. Normal use does not require a fee or publication of your source. Apache and third-party components retain their own modification and redistribution rights. Trademarks are separate.
From 5.21.0, public source manifests record the exact revision, file hashes, component licenses and origins. New company-owned Rust reference implementation originals remain private. Public generated Rust and third-party Rust are classified by origin. Generated output containing a private handwritten runtime needs a rights determination before publication.
Historical reference
5.20.4 is the Last Public Rust Reference Compiler Release / Historical Source Snapshot, the full Rust reference release retained for long-term study. Earlier versions were also published; their recipients retain their existing rights.
- Full Apache-2.0 source archive
- Source browser and raw files
- Release manifest and reconstruction record
Archive SHA-256 is 09e3bbe880cb3e8d05984576cb768e090f2f38ec96d866a62db96cf0a37a6b8b. Its bytes, notices, fixed-point evidence and reconstruction inputs remain unchanged. A generated-Rust fixed point means identical Rust output for the same source set. Matching semantic observations and bit-for-bit executable reproduction are distinct checks.
Published downloads and retention
Downloads lists actually published releases from 5.20.4. Artifacts published for that and every later stable release permanently retain their versioned URLs and hashes. The mutable latest.json pointer selects an already published release. Earlier versions are outside this retention commitment.
The current manual describes 5.21. Check releaseVersion in version.json and the live download manifest for the available executable. A 5.21 executable or source archive is marked available after actual publication.
